Mixology Roadshows started up with just myself (DJ Bazil Fox) in 1991.
I got into
DJing by accident really, I worked as a Glass Collector at the Waterloo Tavern (Bush) on Great Union Street, Hull.
The
DJ there at the time was called Pete, he was 61 years old (not a very good DJ, I have to say), he met a girl in her 20's
called Karen.
After two weeks of seeing this girl, he started leaving the pub early to go clubbing
with her and leaving me to finish the night off DJing.
One night, the landlord (Chris)
was present as he had time off from his main job as a Deep Sea Diver had noticed that I had taken over from Pete.
Chris
came up to me and asked where Pete was, (what could I say, but tell him the truth), I told him he has gone clubbing.
Chris
then stated that he is going to sack Pete and said that he wanted me to be their new DJ as he had already asked the customers
who they would prefer as a DJ (me or Pete) and all replies where for me to take over.
Back then
in 1991, the wage for me was £12 per night as the gear and vinyl were owned by the pub.
I
have always wanted to be a DJ since I was about 6 years old, and with me DJing at Bush, it was my big break.
In
1993, I had left Waterloo Tavern and started DJing for Graham (Contrast Disco's and later SkyTech Roadshows) and was earning
£25 per night.
Some people called me a mug and said I was worth more than that, but I was
putting up with it to gain more experience, not only for DJing but for running a business.
In
1995, I left Contrast Disco's and set up on my own officially as Mixology Roadshows.
In 1999,
I had a serious car accident, I lost all the bookings that I had booked at that time (3 years worth of work), as I was in
Hospital for 8 weeks.
Upon discharge from Hospital, I was in a wheelchair for 8 weeks and then
on crutches for a further 4 weeks.
I went back to DJing in 2002 as Mixology Roadshows.
In
2007 I worked at the Albion Pub, Caroline Street, Hull as a DJ (where I met DJ Spike, who became Co-Owner of Mixology Roadshows),
he was the landlord.
And in January 2008, I and DJ Spike decided to form a partnership into Mixology
Roadshows, employing more and more DJ's and also expanding to providing live acts.
